The Sign of the Takahe is a Category 1 listed heritage building halfway up Cashmere Hill on the Port Hills, about 10 minutes from the Christchurch centre. It has hosted weddings, functions and celebrations since 1918 and now operates purely as a wedding and function venue, with no cafe, restaurant or bar.
Stonework architecture gives the building a castle-like look, and the lawns and garden outside offer room for guests to mingle. Elopement bookings are also taken.
Rated 4.4 from 762 Google reviews, 514 of them five stars. It suits couples after something out of the ordinary, with mountain views from the hill and a large wedding and functions space inside the building.
