The Old Stone House in Cracroft, Cashmere, is a fully restored heritage building that takes wedding bookings for up to 100 guests. Couples cater the day themselves.
The stone building began as an accommodation house for farm workers built by Sir John on his estate. A fire in 1971 destroyed the main roof and upper floor, and a committee of locals then raised funds to rebuild it.
Community groups later worked on the grounds, laying paving stones and sowing lawns. The building now runs as the Cracroft Community Centre and is also hired out for other events.
The original three-floor building had stables and storage below, cooking and communal rooms on the ground floor and sleeping quarters above. In later decades it served as headquarters with a tall radio mast outside.
